The Confucius Institute at the University of Canterbury (CIUC) is part of the global Confucius Institute network. It is jointly managed by the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China).
CIUC was officially launched on 1 November 2009 by Chinese Vice-Premier Li Keqiang. It was the second Confucius Institute established in New Zealand and the first in the South Island. As noted by Vice-Premier Li, CIUC marks a significant milestone in the cultural and educational exchange between China and New Zealand.
